Guided Tantric Meditation

This group is suitable for absolutely anyone, regardless of previous experience (or lack…) of meditation. This is not a body-centred yogic practice and so you do not need to feel ultra-fit to take part. On the most practical of levels, all you need to be able to do is to sit or lie down for about an hour, during which you listen to guided instructions and visualisations, and then to reflect upon how this has made you feel.

During this practice one appears to be asleep but the consciousness is actually operating at a much deeper level of awareness. In this lucid threshold state between sleep and wakefulness, it becomes possible to separate the consciousness either from the incessant distraction of the externalised world and also from sleep. In learning to do this, the potential of the consciousness as a transformative tool for us to use becomes greatly heightened and can be applied in many ways: for example, to facilitate physical or emotional healing and wholeness, to increase creativity, to develop the memory or powers of concentration, to let go of destructive patterns of behaviour or to establish a greater sense of purpose in life.

In addition to being a fascinating technique to learn, these guided meditations are also an exceptionally simple practice. For this reason, newcomers to the practice rarely feel lost or overwhelmed by the busy-ness of their own minds (as is sometimes the case in other forms of sitting mediation, where the meditator is left unguided) but can in fact ‘lose themselves’ in the vividness of inner guided sensory exploration. The practice can be done lying down on a futon or otherwise sat in a chair. Please bring a cushion and light blanket to cover yourself with.

Whilst it is not mandatory to attend all evenings of each series, it is highly recommended as each session builds on the journey of the last. If this attendance is not practical though, it is still possible to attend individual sessions and still benefit from them.
